    GOLD - Target Archery

    David Lilley

Shot in the worst conditions I have ever shot in on both days with very strong gusting winds boordering gale force at times with horizontal rain thrown in your face as well, I won a clearcut victory over Kiwi Chris Hurricks in a Fita round. I scored a low of only 972 with 453 in the Long Metric and 519 in the Short Metric which says it all about the weather. It was a lottery as aiming off wasn't much help as you didn't know what the wind was going to gust like next. I would have liked to have posted a score well into the 1200's but not in this weather. At one point on the second day, shooting was suspended for half an hour but then it resumed for the rest of the afternoon. I was presented with my gold medal by the 2004 World Junior Champion and Olympic bronze medalist Tim Cuddihy.

I was pretty much whacked out by battling the wind so it is as well there is a couple of days off now until Saturday's indoor event in what will be a tough assignment for me. Whatever the result of that is, today I achieved what I've set out to do over the last six years since I heard about this event - that is to win the only global target title available for Limited Compound. It's been a long journey and now I have completed it.
