UK title regained, Double York record set

    David Lilley

I had a really good UK Championships. In scoring 2066 for the Double York round I smashed the previous record of 1957.

On the first day in a light diagonal tailwind with moderate gusts, I scored 1014 which wasn't bad. On the second day I scored 1052 in much breezier conditions, particularly in the afternoon. I was heading for a single day record at one point following terrific shooting between the fourth and tenth dozens but I fell down a bit at the 60 yards distance. I managed a 2 dozen MB standard at 100 yards as well.

I am really chuffed to win this, beating the competition (which did not include the defending champion). After allowing for the conditions (the first time there have been two days without bad weather at Lilleshall) this has been my best tournament performance.

Now I need to work on my closer distances ahead of next week's Fita Star tournament at Kirby Muxloe - subject to the weather.
