2 new UK records but the weather - aaargh!

    David Lilley

At the Fita Fest at Ampthill I had mixed results mostly down to the weather. On day one, I shot less than brilliantly which was down to me and the breeze which knocked me around a bit. I only scored a meagre 555 for the 70m round. I scored 203 for the last 24 arrows which shows how bad I was prior to that. In the head to head, the new 12 arrow format, I set a UK record of only 84. This was a microcosm of the day as I somehow only scored 32 (!) on the first end with 52 on the second.

On the second day which was even windier with horizontal rain thrown in as well, I scored 553 which was good in those awful conditions. Technically I felt I was shooting better. This time I can blame the strong breeze. In the head to head element, I scored 89 for a new UK record. I got 41 on the first end and then with the wind at it's strongest all day I scored 48 for the second end.

Despite the rubbish conditions which seem to be following me around at tournaments this summer, I enjoyed doing this 70m fest. I now need to plan out the rest of the tournament schedule which will have to include more 70m head to heads and searching for some good weather at them so that we can see what I know I can and will do.
