    Record smashed at Cambridge

    David Lilley

I had a terrific day at the City of Cambridge Bowmen Open Windsor tournament. I got my ninth UK record with a score of 918, beating the old record by 34 points and beating the competition as well. I was only 12 points behind the top unlimited compound shooter. The conditions were not great as there was an awkward moderate crosswind which gusted at times. I had one horror show end at 60 yards scoring only 44 but other than that I did well with only the occasional careless shot. In a light wind I think I could have got another 20 points at least.

I have turned the Windsor record from one of the worst into one of the best and I got my best score in 12 months. I now feel I'm back to where I was two years ago when I had a really good year. Now I must push on and get to where I should have been last year.

The tournament was a good experience for me. I felt quite tense for the first half of the day and this affected my early scoring. This day really mattered to me as I wanted to use this as a progress check - mission accomplished! I can see me doing this tournament in future years as I liked the whole set up. We even had a flypast from the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane that flew over Buckingham Palace earlier in the day.
