- Win Club Champs - but another trophy wait
David Lilley
I won a thriller at the Bognor Club Championships today. We did a York round in a stiff crosswind in the morning session which died down in the afternoon.
After the 100 yard distance, which I did well at for the first 2 dozen before the wind got up and messed things up, I was 20 points down on the leader and 14 down on second who both shot Unlimited Compound. I put in a storming 80 yards despite having one disastrous end where three arrows had fletchings beginning to come off, which drove tham low into the black dropping around 10-12 points. After the 4 dozen at that distance, I was level with the leader but the previous second placed archer had fallen away. At 60 yards, we were still level after the first of the four ends. At the next end I got a full house giving me a 6 point lead with 2 ends left. I frittered four points of that away on the next end. On the last end I scored four more points than the other archer so I won by six points with a mediocre score od 988(33).
It was better than last week in worse conditions. I seem to be in the zone at 80y/70m at the moment. 60 & 100 yards needs sorting out.
I will have to wait at least seven weeks for a trophy as for some strange reason the club didn't do the presentations today. This really narks me. Talk about taking the gloss off a win.
