- Osterley Tournament Review
David Lilley
On the first day I shot a York round. I only got to the range in time for sighters. I shot surprisingly well. For the first five dozen I did really well before dropping around 16 points on the last dozen. During the 80 yard section, I started to reel in the deficit on the UK record of 1058. I thought my chance of it had gone. By the time I got to the last two dozen at 60 yards, I was almost on course. For the last end I had to get a full house. The first five arrows were golds but I pulled the sixth one in to the red so I only equalled the record. According to GNAS rules no shared records are allowed in such circumstances which I think is a bit rough. It was a pleasant surprise given that I shot so badly a day before. For the record I scored 1058(29) with a Long National PB of 580. For the second day, I shot a Fita round. I got a national record at the 90m distance scoring 265. That makes up for equalling it at Chippenham. I shot well at 70m with one bad arrow costing me another distance award. I scored 298 for that. I scored 295 at 50m. Going into the 30m section, I needed only 327 in excellent conditions for a national Fita record. I expected to get this but things went very wrong in the first two dozen. Even with a 110 in the last dozen, I scored only 314 to end up with a score of 1175(30). It was a good score but it should have been higher so I feel a bit disappointed about it. I can only think of being determined to get it next time. For both the York and Fita scores I am claiming Rose and Stars awards respectively. It was nice to get a record and find some seriously good form after so much bad weather. Osterley is a really good range with a very good social club attached providing food and drink. I will probably do another tournament there in future.
