    Shooting in the snow

    David Lilley

For the first time in nearly a fortnight, I went down to the range which is still a snowfield despite two days thawing elsewhere. I went to work on stopping torquing the bow whilst shooting at 60m. This is the major task I need to do for the next few months. I want to have it solved prior to looking at shooting with a release aid. Results were mixed. Some ends were extremely good not only in good size but in position as well. Other ends they were either sprayed left and right or they went highin the red/blue which I put down to no index finger around the bow which I also think made me kick the bow more with my wrist. This will need working on. I think that the truly spectacular scores I've done and heard or seen others I know do are simply because for whatever reason on those days the bow torque is reduced to practically zero.

My new Mathews Conquest 4 bow has arrived at last. This one will be used for release aid shooting and consequently has a slightly shorter draw length of 25.5 inches. That will have to wait until the torque problem is sorted.
